ABOUT OUR MISSION

PARTISANSHIP INFECTING LOCAL ELECTIONS

Like many of you, we are deeply disturbed by the growing trend to politicize local elections.  Electoral contests, such as city councils and school boards should be devoid of party politics.  However, in 2021, here in Clallam County, we have witnessed unprecedented involvement on the part of one political party and associated far-left special interests in local races.   Special interests went so far as to launch a PAC specifically to influence city council elections in the City of Sequim.  While the leadership of this PAC claims independence from party politics, its donor list reads like a who's who in hard core, national party politics over the years.  Also, candidates willing to align with socialist-leaning groups have garnered maximum allowable contributions from multiple special interests.

INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES LABELED BY SPECIAL INTERESTS

At the same time would be citizen candidates opposing these establishment candidates have been continuously slapped with the usual libels (fascist, QAnon, far-right) by local activists backed up by local, regional and even national media.  Constant denials were somehow cited as prima facie proof of "guilt" which supposedly accompanies the label.   Candidates are forced to be more preoccupied answering questions of party affiliations than addressing issues of the day.

HOW CAN A CITIZEN CANDIDATE COMPETE AGAINST PROs

This is not right.  Unfortunately, any move to get partisanship out of local politics raises a significant question.  Where does an independent citizen candidate go to learn how to be a candidate?  What does it exactly mean to be a candidate?  What are a candidate's obligations and responsibilities?    What are the relevant regulations?    What actions must a candidate perform to be successful and which actions are distractions no matter how energetically advanced?  There is a sense that being a candidate entails more than just making speeches and passing out cards.  How does someone who has not been immersed in politics, but wants to serve in local matters, obtain this knowledge along with the wisdom to conduct his or her campaign well?

WHAT'S THE ANSWER

This where we come in.  We are a society of independent-minded former candidates, and elected officials.  We are committed to independence in thought and in deed as local elected officials.  Many of us have paid a price for our independence.   We have learned that it is primarily our independence that the establishment elites hate.  Partisans hate our independence because it exposes their partisanship.  This we have learned through bitter experience

WHAT WE DO

We conduct or participate in candidate recruitment, candidate training and guidance, voter participation and awareness events to advance the cause of independent candidates for the people.  Any assistance we provide to a candidate or team is on a no cost basis and has no valuation for reporting purposes.

OUR MENTOR
Pericles of Athens

Pericles of Athens, variously known as the father of Democracy or the father of Populism, set out to make ancient Athens great by extending power downward from the ruling aristocracy to the people.  Although a member of the ruling class himself, he championed the betterment of Athens over the interests of any individual or class through greater participation on the part of the people in their government.  Despised and opposed by the elites, Pericles understood that power in the hands of the people through a transparent government made the city-state prosperous and respected.  His time of ruling Athens has been called the Golden Age and the Age of Pericles.
